Data cited in The Australian show podcasting and online audio generally are thriving in Australia. Among the many conclusions Australian businesses can draw are that podcasts are easy enough to download and people want to; and they have diverse interests â?? from drive-time radio to science content. Highlights include: One in four Austereo listeners are streaming radio over the net - a similar proportion to radio listeners in the US and Britain. Last year only 16 per cent of Australians had an MP3 player, and less than a quarter of those had ever downloaded a podcast. Commercial Radio Australia research from last month shows more than one in three Australians aged 14 years and over own an MP3 player and a third of those enjoy podcasts. Radio podcasting increased 500 per cent in the year to June 2007, the CRA research shows. Austereo has experienced a dramatic increase in podcasting, which has reached about 730,000 downloads per month, up from about 500,000 12 months ago and 50,000 the year before. ABC Radio delivers about 3.5 million audio podcasts per month, while on average, people access about 350,000 live streams.

6 days to go until the race starts on the shores of Lake Macquarie and only until tomorrow to get one of the 10 last entries left for the event! With close to 140 teams registered, this is now officially the most popular event of our season and should be heaps of fun for everyone: participants and spectators alike! So help spread the word to get the locals to support their brave representatives!

ZFM Launches ZFM DIGITAL + 24 Using the Australian Developed Omega server ZFM broadcast hours have always been available for syndication in real-time to affiliate AM/FM and Digital broadcasters throughout Australia and overseas. However this has up to now left out a lot of smaller stations who simply don't have the funds in their budget for a real-time, permanent connection to the great programs Z has to offer for re-broadcast. They have instead had access via FTP to a limited number of programs. To this end ZFM has developed the "ZFM Digital + 24" system. Stations unable to afford a permanent Omega link can now use FTP to download hourly sections, or cross hour shifts of every single day such as the very popular "Z Top Ten" dance program every week night at 6pm. Every single hour of ZFM Digital is available for syndication time-shifted twenty four hours after it goes to air. Broadcasters have the option of a wide range of on-air shifts through the week with different shows and presenters.

ZFM Russia Launch - In Co-Operation with isonliveradio.com, ZFM has today launched ZFM Russia. ZFM Russia is a two-tiered strategy to expand and build upon the long-term services of isonliveradio in the radio markets of Russia and the former soviet Union. "Isonliveradio.com have been providing music programs to a few Russian language radio stations for years now and its only logical that with the streamlined services that ZFM offers we should look to it as a model for the future. ZFM Digital is also an ideal medium for general program delivery to the wider Russian Radio audience". ZFM Russia will be delivering customized radio programming via their recently commissioned server in a Moscow data centre and the ZFMCountry server located in Sydney NSW. This it is hoped will provide the high speed and redundancy required for professional broadcast delivery. There are also plans to commission mirror delivery servers in the UK and Japan to provide the high speed access required by broadcasters across such a vast area. ZFM Russia will also for the first time be expanding the regulation free IADR Digital platform to include Russian listeners. IADR is a collaboration between ZFM Digital, IARBA and Spodtronic from Germany. "IADR is perfect for us as Russia and its surrounding countries have comparatively poor AM/FM terrestial radio coverage. The type of Government spectrum regulation and little foreign investment have not encouraged private radio sector growth in Russia as everyone would have once hoped. Because of this there has been major growth in mobile phone delivered radio, moreso than it seems in many other richer European countries. Dance, Electronic and hip hop music has a lot of interest in Russia and its surrounds; and ZFM Digital is set to become a major player in the market". While most of ZFM Russia's operations will continue to be run from sunny Australia, something once never possible without the growth of the internet, ZFM has also engaged a Russian sales team on the ground in Moscow. The team is Headed by the newest addition to the ZFM family, Nikolay Sidorov. The local presence is set to ensure the commercial sucess of the station and provide local employment. http://www.zfmrussia.com
